I heard a story on BBC about how Mongollian young people are now starting to use Hip Hop to speak out against Chinese authority and influence. From what the story said, Hip Hop was not popular at all until the DJs and artists starting adding political content - now it's a craze. Interesting - it seems in the West getting political is a popular death sentence for musicians.

Have you heard it? I heard a little snippet on radio and it sounded really interesting. I'm a only luke-warm Lynch fan (I know he's right next to Captain Beefheart in that special place in your heart, Ivo), but this sounds so exciting. I can't wait until it's available.

I started with Panda Bear too. Really strange disc with a lot of charm, some parts seemed a little repetitive at first but after some head phone listening became almost soothing and trance like. I then downloaded AC's Here Come Indians, which is still a difficult listen and almost turned me off completely. Then I tried Feels and that is much better. Still a bit psychotic, but definitely a lot of really good harmonies. The new one is definitely my favorite of the 3, but I downloaded a couple more to listen to.

It took Panda first for me to go back and appreciate Animal Collective - I had heard A.C. first and only liked bits and pieces, but was more open after P.B. I really like the new A.C. - but as you know, I'm a popster, not a snob. So I'm not worried that it's too accessible. Hye would you please post something here about your upcoming detroit show - i want to be able to direct my michigan friends to it. thanks baby - love u!

thanks for posting this - very interesting. I think the record companies are illustrative of the problems with capitalism in general - instead of focusing on making and selling goods and services, financial people are adding all sorts of layers and ways of making money onto already existing markets. These artificial profits strain the entire system until it breaks - and as we've seen recently - the whole house of cards can come falling down. Not to mention the record companies non-sensical strategy of making music hard to get rather than facilitating consumers acquiring their product (music) - which is what most businesses do. it's all crazy.

I haven't watched this, but I'm a big fan of Girl Talk. I usually don't like mash-ups, but he is a genius. I think music fans need to hear from more artists like you who agree that musical "pirates" are not ruining their chances of getting paid - actually they create more opportunities. I read an interview w/ "Girl Talk" and he talked about how Soulja boy's Crank Dat was only a minor hit until the video mash ups hit U-Tube - now his great grand kids will shit in gold threaded diapers - as will the record company execs who are associated with him. such a short-sighted industry!
Remember how cassette tapes were supposed to kill the record industry? dumbasses!

You're taking me back Jimbo. Although I forgot all about it, I used to love that show. We used to listen to it on return trips from Michigan on Sunday nights. I remember one show when Courtney Love called to gossip with Jim DeRogatis about some other rock personalities that she hated. During part of her tirade she called Trent Reznor a Republican. It was great radio.
